Review: Destinies in Darkness, Part 1

Destinies in Darkness, Part 1
Destinies in Darkness, Part 1 by Scarlet Hyacinth

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars. When I first bought this, I just didn't get into it so I pushed it to one side (or in this case, archived it on my kindle and forgot I had it). I finally got around to reading 'Over the Edge' (the second story of this series) and thought maybe I couldn't get into this one was because you needed to read them in order. While you probably should read them in order, this could of been a stand-alone (by itself). I'm sure it will all tie together in the next two novels (You meet Keenan and Eric briefly in the previous novel), and I'm eager to see how it all does. I really want to know more about Jean Luc (and Aiden and the professor!).

I already picked up the next book and can't wait to read it.

Review: Over the Edge

Over the Edge
Over the Edge by Scarlet Hyacinth

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I actually needed the beginning to remind me of the previous book! And after that? Whew! Gabriel on Earth was great. It was good to see him mature (and have cool powers!). Lost some of it's charm with the abrupt ending. I felt like Kalin and Cade resolved everything way too fast.

Looking forward to the next part of the series.

Review: Bed and Breakfast

Bed and Breakfast
Bed and Breakfast by Scarlet Hyacinth

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars. I really enjoyed this book, though I'm glad to see it's only book #1 as a lot of loose ends were left open. I'll be looking forward to reading more about these characters and this world.

Review: Forever Broken

Forever Broken
Forever Broken by Evangeline Anderson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars. I enjoyed this. I usually like Evangeline Anderson's m/m stories, so that's not much of a surprise. The characters/situation is angsty and the smexxin' is always smokin' hot.

Review: Beautiful Forever

Beautiful Forever
Beautiful Forever by Diana Copland

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

2-2.5 stars. I enjoyed most of this story until the last part. Suddenly time skips forward 6 months to a year (and how dare Brady not get over being turned into a vampire in that time! /sarcasm) and a few paragraphs or so later, it's fifty years into the future!

I think if this was a longer novel, that time could of been fleshed out and made the whole story much better.

Blood Howl
Blood Howl by Alex Kidwell

4 stars. I loved Jed! From the other comments, I see this is going to be a sequel (which makes me so excited!); I can't wait to read more of these characters.

Review: And To All A Good Night

And To All A Good Night
And To All A Good Night by Kaje Harper

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really enjoyed this glimpse into the not so distant future. Loved reading this little bit of their lives. You can feel the tension simmering below everything. Tony's thought of Mac getting injured in the line of duty and him not finding out until he saw it on the news hit me. Here's hoping they tackle that issue when we get to read more of them.

Review: Salad on the Side

Salad on the Side
Salad on the Side by Karenna Colcroft

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

2 stars. Those werewolves really did like to talk! Way too much about the pack (to me, anyways). I liked Kyle, but didn't really like Tobias at all.

Possible spoiler but... poor Kyle almost gets killed, turns into a werewolf (after 3 days of being unconscious) and everyone jumps down his throat about the rules of being a member of the pack. Give the man a breather! He had no time to really digest what even happened to him!

I did love the idea of a vegan werewolf though. :)

Review: The Balance of Silence

The Balance of Silence
The Balance of Silence by S. Reesa Herberth

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

2 stars. Really good read which had me interested the whole time...until the end.

All of a sudden Ducks can talk! He doesn't talk to Riv in months, Riv gets shot, and then boom! Ducks is back in his life and can talk now so everything is okay! Ducks ignored Riv for months and was maybe thinking of never talking to him again (even after he got his voice back) but that wasn't even touched on in the shortest reunion ever. I wanted Ducks to actually work to get with Riv, but Riv just makes it way too easy for him. (and I really liked his character too)

And note; there is no sex in this book. I'm not saying I need to read a sex scene everytime I read a book, (I can name over 10 that actually have too many sex scenes off the top of my head) but you just don't really feel the chemistry between them all that much. Some hot kisses and that's about it.

Very disappointing conclusion after being such a good read.

Review: Packing Leather

Packing Leather
Packing Leather by Kim Dare

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 stars. Nice, sexy story about two friends who work together finally getting together. My only niggle would be that the first time they have sex, Darren doesn't allow Jamie to orgasm. They've been dancing around their attraction for months and then he isn't allowed to finish? I thought that was a bit cruel for no real reason other than to show his dominance. (and especially after Jamie had the guts to jump headfirst into bondage!)

But, really, that's only my personal opinion. Future readings may change my mind. :)

Review: Hard as Teak

Hard as Teak
Hard as Teak by Margie Church

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

2.5 - 3 stars. I liked the book, but I wanted to like the characters more than I did. Plus, I could of done without the m/f scenes in the beginning. (so hardcore m/m fans like myself, be warned!)

No real angst; Kevin had doubts and concerns about himself, but he dealt with them rationally and relatively pain-free (the most emotion he showed was regret at hurting his ex-girlfriend). I had a harder time liking Teak for some reason.

The writing was good. I would read more of this author's m/m books in the future (providing I know about those sneaky m/f scenes!).

Review: Prisoner

Prisoner
Prisoner by Megan Derr

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my reread of the new edition. And it's still such an amazing story that sucked me in like I haven't already read it a bunch of times. Kick ass world building and characters that just draw you in and keep you turning the pages.

I definitely enjoyed the added scene between Dieter and Beraht at the end. *grins*

I think if the author put together a book of just short stories of them two I might actually die of a fangasm. ;)

Really though, I can't recommend this highly enough.

(ETA - Currently rereading the newer edition)

Review: Between Sinners and Saints

Between Sinners and Saints
Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was just plain awesome. Very hard to put down (I hate when real life gets in the way of my reading! *snickers*) and I just loved the main characters. (and even Levi's family!)

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. Go. Buy. Read. (you'll thank me for it)
